Liverpool made a ‘last-minute’ attempt to hijack Paris Saint-Germain’s deal for Willian Pacho, according to Le10 Sport.
Three days ago, the Ligue 1 winners announced the signing of the defender from Eintracht Frankfurt, and they invested €40m to acquire his signature.
Prior to the 22-year-old’s move to Paris, it’s claimed Liverpool tried to snatch him away from PSG’s clutches.
Le10 have a report giving an insight into how PSG advisor Luis Campos decided to bet on the centre-back. They say the centre-back’s arrival in France has been surprising, since he’s an ‘unknown’ to a large section of PSG supporters.
Campos followed the Ecuador international for years and carried out the negotiations in ‘complete discretion’. The news about the deal leaked only during the final stages of the operation.
Luis Enrique’s side faced an ‘unexpected threat’ from Liverpool in the ‘final moments’. The Reds made an offer to the Bundesliga side at the ‘last-minute’, after learning about PSG’s agreement with their German counterpart.
It’s claimed Liverpool’s ‘offer was higher’ than the one proposed by the French champions, but Eintracht Frankfurt rejected it because they had already agreed a deal with PSG.
In short, Arne Slot’s side were ‘too late’ in their efforts to hijack PSG’s deal for Pacho.
