Liverpool interest fuels transfer excitement – Club ‘rubbing hands together’ over potentially selling player to Reds

Last week, we covered reports from the European media which claimed that Liverpool are interested in Alan Varela.

Following the Reds’ visit to Portugal to watch the match between Porto and Benfica, it was soon said they were keeping an eye on the Dragons’ midfielder.

Now as Varela is travelling to England to play Arsenal in the Champions League, newspaper Record brings a fresh story which again mentions Liverpool’s interest.

Their piece highlights how the midfielder’s market value is going up, and points out that a good exhibition at the Emirates Stadium could significantly increase the chances of a big summer move.

Porto, who only paid €8m to sign him last summer, are now said to be ‘rubbing their hands together’ ahead of that potential sale.

Record points out that Liverpool were recently reported as one of the interested sides, as well as Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint Germain.

The Argentine is now valued by Transfermarkt at €25m and protected by a €70m release clause, so Porto know they have a gem on their hands. Especially in case he manages to impress tomorrow night or even helps them secure qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals.
