Liverpool have positioned themselves in the race to sign VfB Stuttgart’s Finn Jeltsch and are ready to fight with other clubs for his signature.
The 20-year-old’s rise at the Bundesliga side have caught Liverpool’s attention. He joined them from 1. FC Nürnberg in February 2025 and has enjoyed regular minutes this season.
Last season, the centre-back made 17 league starts as injuries and fitness limited him to 1,506 minutes in the Bundesliga. His situation has improved, playing 809 minutes from 10 matches this season.
Jeltsch’s performances have seen him attract interest from the Premier League, La Liga and elsewhere.
Liverpool threat for Barcelona
The defender’s rise has convinced the German club to take action. Last month, we relayed news of VfB Stuttgart raising his price from €35m to €45m.
Earlier this month, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid are in the picture to sign him. The Merseyside club are willing to pay €50m to secure his services.
Wednesday’s print edition of Sport picks up on that and covers the latest about the Reds and La Liga duo.
Barcelona and their sporting leaders keep monitoring the market for opportunities. They are scouting for young players with very high potential and Finn Jeltsch fits the bill.
Reds take action
Hansi Flick’s side have to be wary of competition from the Anfield club and Real Madrid as these two clubs are also keen on signing the Germany U21 international.
With a contract expiring in 2030, Transfermarkt value him at €35m. Recent claims have stated VfB Stuttgart have set a €60m price.
The newspaper, after relaying it, states Finn Jeltsch is unlikely to join Barcelona in the near future for €60m.
Online, Sport further add Andoni Iraola’s side have joined the ‘bidding war’ to sign the promising defender.
Liverpool’s interest is ‘particularly intriguing’ for Barcelona because of Ronald Araújo, who is on loan at Anfield from the Camp Nou.
The Reds have a €55m clause to make the Uruguay international’s stay permanent.
Both Jeltsch and Araújo’s preferred position is in the heart of defence. Liverpool’s final decision about these two players will end up impacting Barcelona’s planning for 2027.
