Liverpool’s victory over Crystal Palace at the weekend was one of the best games of the Premier League season so far, with Jurgen Klopp’s men coming out 4-2 winners.
Klopp’s Liverpool are having a brilliant season so far and are level with Manchester City on points and goals scored. The only reason Pep Guardiola’s men are top of the pile is a better defensive record.
Five goals in a thrilling first half were rounded off by a Joel Matip header from a Philippe Coutinho corner. Crystal Palace’s James McArthur scored both his team’s goals, but his efforts were largely in vain as Liverpool were much stronger than Alan Pardew’s men.
However, McArthur has been recognised by Gazzetta dello Sport and named in the European Team of the Week.
Every week the grand old Italian newspaper picks an eleven from teams all around Europe, excluding their own Serie A, and McArthur and Matip have both got into the current one.
Liverpool fans may well be left scratching their heads and wondering why Philippe Coutinho didn’t get in, with the Brazilian absolutely excellent against Palace.
