Barcelona didn’t want to put their second choice goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen on the transfer market this summer. After playing second fiddle to Marc-André ter Stegen for the past two seasons, the Dutchman is attracting interest, despite restricted playing time.
Liverpool are believed to be the main club interested in signing the former Ajax man. The speculation surrounding his future intensified over the weekend after he was spotted at Barcelona’s training ground on Friday.
Cillessen was expected to be there, supposed to be on holiday, and without any obvious reason for the visit, it all encouraged rumours about the player’s future.
Sunday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo carried a report talking about an “offer” from “great” club Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s side are not the only club after Cillessen as today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo mentions interest from Chelsea, Napoli and Bayern Munich.
Cillessen the only player identified as the target by the Reds. AS Roma’s Alisson Becker is also wanted by the Premier League club.
The 25-year-old is also wanted by Real Madrid and the Brazilian has admitted that he could make a decision on his future before the start of the 2018 World Cup.
“Let’s see if something happens this week…I hope it will be resolved, yes, before the World Cup, that’s what I want, to be honest. I have left the responsibilities of negotiations to my representatives,” Alisson explained (via Marca).
“If it’s not before the first game, it will be after the World Cup, that’s my thinking 100 percent. There are some possibilities and we are working on all of them, with respect to Roma.”
Cillessen would be cheaper and almost certainly easier to sign for Liverpool.
