The Italian excitement around Napoli signing Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United is starting to die down a little.

There had been confidence bordering on cockiness in the Italian media, with the belief Manchester United are very keen on selling and would have to collapse their price.

That confidence has been waning over the past 48 hours. Ruben Amorim picking Garnacho to start against Rangers wasn’t the best sign of a club desperate to sell, and Chelsea moving for the Manchester United youngster is another blow.

So Napoli are moving to other targets and could now face a Liverpool shaped problem. Arne Slot’s side look like they could run away with the Premier League title this season, without Liverpool having moved much in the market during the last summer window.

That means there’s an ability from the Anfield club to look around and pick what they want ahead of the summer. Sunday’s edition of Corriere dello Sport reports Napoli are looking at Garnacho alternatives and one of those is Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi.

The 23-year-old is a possibility if they can’t sign the Manchester United player, however, Corriere dello Sport state ‘Liverpool are watching’ the BVB player’s situation and could therefore move for the attacker themselves.

Liverpool don’t need to rush an effort so are likely thinking of the summer, but if Borussia Dortmund and their player are aware there’s Reds interest it’s hardly going to make Napoli’s task easier.
