Feyenoord manager Arne Slot “would have liked” to go to Tottenham but decided against it when they didn’t show a willingness to pay for him.
That’s according to analyst Kenneth Pérez, who believes Spurs could have gotten their new manager if they’d simply shown a desire to pay what Feyenoord wanted for him.
Tottenham remain on the hunt for Antonio Conte’s replacement more than two months after the Italian departed the club after an apparent falling out with the players and upper management.
They’ve been linked with a number of names since that point, including Slot, who appeared to be at the top of their wish list in recent weeks.
However, it sooner transpired that he would staying with the Dutch champions as it was revealed their demands for their manager had scared Tottenham off and Levy didn’t want to pay up.
Since that point it’s been made clear that Slot actually wanted to stay and continue the job he’s started, but Pérez believes that isn’t the case.
“On the one hand very smart, on the other hand I don’t know if he is completely… I have the feeling he would have liked to go to Tottenham,” MSN report him saying.
“I don’t blame him for that at all either, because I would have liked that too. But when it was a bit like that Tottenham didn’t want to pay the amounts Feyenoord were asking for, he settled for his money.”
