Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Enso González has insisted his focus is on making his debut for the first team, rather than the Copa America with Paraguay.

The winger has been speaking to Versus about his plans for the summer, when he could be a part of both the Olympic squad and his country’s team at the Copa America.

The 19-year-old Paraguayan is yet to make his first team debut for Wolves after arriving in a €6m deal from Libertad in August last year.

He’s instead spent this season playing in Premier League 2, making six appearances in total and one in the EFL Trophy.

He’s not a regular in Gary O’Neil’s first team squad either, although he was on the bench for the clashes Luton and Manchester City last month and the EFL Cup clash with Ipswich Town back in September.

His club career is yet to really get going but the same cannot be said of his international career, where he is a regular for Paraguay’s U23 side.

Indeed, he recently enjoyed success with them in CONMEBOL’s Pre-Olympic tournament, with Paraguay finishing as champions in that ahead of Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela, to qualify for the Olympics in Paris this summer.

That success has put González and others on the radar, but he insists his focus is only on making his debut for Wolves before the end of the season.

“Yes, obviously for everyone it is a dream to play for their country and even more so in a Copa America. And I hope I can be there giving my grain of sand,” he said.

“The truth is that sometimes I start thinking about the pre-Olympic thing or I continue watching the games.

“And I can’t forget that match against Uruguay, which helped us a lot, as a team and as a group, to get ahead and that match also united us a little more and I think that was the plus it gave us to be able to become champion.

“The reception of the people when we arrived in Paraguay, there at the airport too. Lots of people, all on the streets. It was as if we had won the World Cup.

“Right now, my head is here in the Premier League. There are still two games left and I hope to be able to reach the goal of tasting it before the tournament ends. Then there is the Copa America, because it would also be very nice to be able to be there.”
