When Liam Cooper joined CSKA Sofia after his Leeds United career had come to an end, there was a certain amount of excitement around the switch, especially in the Bulgarian media.

The Leeds United had become the club’s highest wage earner, with manager Aleksandar Tomash – and the huge effort he put it – being a key reason for Cooper’s move.

However, his debut has now been delayed due to reasons outside of his control.

As per Tema Sport, relayed by TopSport in Bulgaria, the Leeds United favourite is yet to receive his work visa. Due to that, the defender is yet to be registered by CSKA Sofia and he will not feature against Lokomotiv Sofia today.

Post-Brexit regulations mean that footballers now have to apply for visas when moving to clubs within the EU, and that’s the case for Cooper.

The ex-Leeds man has impressed manager Tomash in training and the hope is that the visa can be arranged so he’s on the pitch soon.

For today’s game, Cooper will be in the stands to watch his new side take on their local rivals.
