Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has his situation today highlighted by French newspaper L’Equipe.
As the national team is once again about to play without the 36-year-old in the squad, this report comes up to clarify what has been going on with the player.
Lloris quit international football in January, and hasn’t played for Tottenham since April 23, when he was given his last chance at the club.
L’Equipe recalls that the likes of Lazio and Newcastle United were all keen on signing the goalkeeper in the summer, as a transfer out of Spurs seemed like the obvious outcome.
It’s said Lloris thought he’d be allowed to leave for free, but Daniel Levy ‘saw things differently’, and made the move more difficult.
The goalkeeper turned down the transfers to Lazio and Newcastle, and after staying in London, sees himself with no perspective of playing again.
L’Equipe points out that only an injury or a suspension of Guglielmo Vicario would convince Tottenham about using Lloris again. With that scenario not looking very likely, he’s said to be waiting for the winter transfer window to see what shows up on his table.
A free move would still be possible at the end of the season, when his contract expires.
