Leicester City could return with a €34m offer for Fiorentina star Nico Gonzalez this summer, if they remain in the Premier League.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who say the player is set to decide his future at the end of the season.
The newspaper explains that Gonzalez is hoping to return to his best form in the final games of the season after something of a disappointing campaign in which he’s managed five goals and one assist in 23 games in the league.
Indeed, the forward has been better in Europe than he has in Serie A and that has led to ‘reflections’ by Fiorentina and him over his future at the club.
Indeed, his agent, Alessandro Moggi, was at the club last Friday for an undetermined meeting, which was likely to discuss his future.
The belief is that there will be ‘no shortage of rumours’ about the player in the coming months and that Leicester’s €34m offer from the January transfer window could be revived.
That was rejected at the time, but Leicester could now ‘receive a different answer’ to such a proposal were they to make it again.
That would, of course, be dependent on them staying in the Premier League, though. If they do so it is likely that they will undergo a major rebuild of the squad, with years of under investment now being blamed for their current situation.
But if Leicester are relegated, the situation will naturally be very different and it’s unlikely there will be any €34m offer on the table for Gonzalez.
