Last week, Wesley Fofana revealed it would be “crazy to say no” to Leicester City, and publicly asked Saint-Étienne to accept the Foxes’ transfer proposal.
Le10 Sport provides the latest information on the Ligue 1 club’s stance and also Leicester’s new offer.
It’s claimed that Saint-Étienne vice-president Roland Romeyer is ready to sell the 19-year-old for a ‘high price’ in order to help the club raise funds to ‘stabilise’ their ‘financial situation’.
Romeyer’s stance is also backed by president Bernard Caïazzo.
After making an initial offer of €25m, Brendan Rodgers’ side, ‘as expected’, have increased their proposal to €29m. The Premier League club are unlikely to go higher than that.
It’s not clear if these figures are viewed as ‘high’ by Romeyer and Caïazzo, and even if that’s the case, Leicester will face another obstacle. As per the report, Saint-Étienne manager Claude Puel ‘blocks’ any possibility of Fofana leaving this summer.
Romeyer and Caïazzo, for now, don’t want to overrule Puel’s wish, but Le10 states the player’s future continues to be uncertain because he wants to leave the club.
Fofana’s camp are expected to hold ‘important discussions’ with Saint-Étienne next week, with a hope of ‘speeding up the process of his transfer’.
