When claims first started in the Italian media about AS Roma being interested in Riyad Mahrez, they were pretty much dismissed. The reasoning was that Roma wouldn’t go anywhere near Leicester City’s likely asking price, so Mahrez’s potential move to the Italian capital was over before it began.

However, Roma director of football Monchi didn’t quite see things that way, and Corriere dello Sport say a first offer of €25m was made. This was of course refused and Roma haven’t made an advance since.

However, Corriere dello Sport say that things are now getting ‘closer and closer’, with Roma intending to get nearer €30m, which it’s claimed is Leicester’s asking price.

They’re going to do that with bonuses, which probably isn’t quite what the Foxes would be expecting and accepting.

It would take some believing to accept Leicester’s asking price is €30m for the 26 year old, and another Italian newspaper, Gazzetta dello Sport, reports in their Saturday edition that a deal under €35m would be very difficult for Roma to pull off.

Leicester have no duty to award Mahrez a bargain exit, and they certainly owe Roma nothing, it would be disappointing, and surprising, to see them cave in on price.
