Leeds United are ‘willing to pay a double-digit million contribution’ to RB Salzburg to sign defender Max Wöber in January.
That’s according to journalist Peter Linden, who says the player will be taking a ‘big risk’ with the potential move to Elland Road.
Leeds have been linked to Wöber over the last few days, with several reports making it clear that Jesse Marsch is keen to reunite with another of his former players.
Indeed, it was explained yesterday that the American coach had been in touch with Wöber just before Christmas to convince him on the move to Leeds.
That was seemingly a task he was successful in, with the player now open to the switch and it being lined up next month.
Linden follows up on that report today, explaining that following the defeat to Manchester City yesterday it is easy to ‘understand why’ Marsch wants to improve his defence with his ‘former protégé Wöber’.
According to him Leeds are ‘willing to pay a double-digit million contribution’ to sign the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at €12m by the likes of Transfermarkt.
Whether that’s the price Leeds will pay, or if more is needed, is unclear, but it is likely Salzburg will hold out for as much as they can get.
Wöber, meanwhile, ‘takes the risk’ of being relegated to the Championship this season, with Leeds in a relegation battle once again this year.
The defeat to Manchester City only added to that and Linden states that if the player was watching it will have been made clear what he is facing in the next few months, a ‘pure relegation battle’.
