Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson has told the Swedish media Garry Monk has clear objectives for the Championship side. Monk was installed as Leeds United boss in the summer, and has steered the club to the play-off places.
In an interview with Sweden’s Wenstrom, Jansson was quizzed about the Leeds United manager, and what he’s done for the club since his arrival.
“You can start to see the investment with many new players, and there are a lot of new players compared to last season’s squad. I think we’re playing good football. Garry knows what he wants and he wants to play good football, but always with the focus on the defensive play first and how to play.
“He wants us to ‘find our game’ and we’re working a lot on that. People know we’re good now, so teams are gonna come and try to make it hard for us, so there are gonna be many hard matches.”
Jansson sounds confident with where Leeds are at the moment, and believes the current success has been largely built on being reliable in defence, which allows the club to take narrow victories.
“We are the consistent team that don’t concede too many goals, we’re good defensively and I reckon we’re hard to face. We’ve won a lot of matches 1-0 and 2-0, and we work a lot on set pieces so we have quite some weight there. We don’t let much through and often keep clean sheets, so I reckon we’re difficult to face.”
Jansson joined Leeds United in the summer from Torino, and alongside Kyle Bartley he’s formed a solid partnership. With Chris Wood providing the goals for Monk’s team Leeds United have a realistic chance of grabbing one of the play-off spots.
