On Saturday, we covered reports from Spain praising Leeds United youngster Mateo Joseph.
The 20-year-old is eligible to represent both England and Spain, and after starting with the former he quickly changed allegiances to the latter.
On Friday he came off the bench for Spain to score their winner against Scotland and that saw an avalanche of praise. It also saw questions about a move to La Liga arise, something which may become a bigger issue in the future.
Sunday’s edition of AS reports Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has got an eye on the Leeds United youngster for the national team. Spain have a shortage of options upfront and therefore De La Fuente is assessing what choices he’ll have ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
With an obvious commitment to bringing youth through, the manager has been going through U21 reports sent to him by Santi Denia. And Mateo Joseph is standing out.
The aim is to find a reliable striker ahead of the World Cup, and Mateo Joseph, Samu Omorodion and Abel Ruiz are the main candidates.
According to the Spanish newspaper, it’s Mateo Joseph who is in the lead right now.
That would be a remarkable step up and see the player’s value skyrocket. Luckily for Leeds United they have him on a contract lasting until June 2028.
