Leeds United target Alejandro Grimaldo ended up disappointing many Benfica fans on Tuesday.
That’s because the Portuguese club announced they’d feature an exclusive interview with him. And since he’s becoming a free agent in the summer, many people thought it would be the breaking news of his new contract with the Eagles, but that didn’t happen.
Newspaper Record writes about this situation today, and when speaking of potential destinations for Grimaldo, Leeds United get a mention once again.
The outlet claims that the agreement between Eagles and the 27-year-old is still ‘distant’, and with the player only talking about the ‘ambition’ of going far in the Portuguese league and the Champions League, there weren’t any positive updates about his potential stay at the end of the season.
Record highlights that Grimaldo is ‘still wanted’ by Leeds, with other clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Fulham also linked.
The player is reportedly making big demands to Benfica for this new deal, and with the Eagles not matching it, he’s said to be keeping ‘all options open’, especially because he ‘welcomes a foray into English football or a return to his country’.
The Lisbon side won’t give up on the renewal until they have a definitive answer, but it seems Grimaldo isn’t giving them any kind of priority.
