Leeds United look set for some transfer drama in the final few days of the summer window.
There’s still multiple exits possible, and more excitingly a few players who could be arriving to help the Whites return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
One of those players is Joseph Paintsil, a 25-year-old winger playing for KRC Genk. Last season he scored 18 goals and added 14 assists over 38 matches, so it’s clear what Leeds are targeting him for.
Early on Monday morning, Belgian journalist Bob Faesen tweeted that Paintsil won’t be going anywhere. The player was said to have made it known he didn’t want to join Leeds United or any other club, and would instead be staying at Genk.
Another journalist Santi Aouna reports that Leeds have reached an agreement with Genk for the transfer, and have also agreed personal terms with the player.
Aouna says the problem is a loyalty payment which Paintsil is expecting from Genk, with he and his agent arguing to get it.
Would they let a transfer to Leeds United fail over such an issue? Perhaps not, but they’ll absolutely try to get the payment agreed before finalising an exit.
