Leeds United have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Dundee forward Greg Stewart after it was confirmed today Faissal El Bakhtaoui has joined the SPL club. At the beginning of the transfer window it was claimed the Dunfermline striker was being lined up to replace Stewart.

The Dundee Evening Telegraph have revealed El Bakhtaoui has joined Dundee on a three-year deal after failing to impress in a recent 2-week trial with Blackburn Rovers.

The Frenchman scored 30 goals in 40 games for Dunfermline, and despite being offered a new contract by his club he was keen to make the step up to the SPL. Dundee also had to beat off competition from Motherwell and Fleetwood Town to land the 23-year-old.

El Bakhtaoui’s arrival at Dundee could now have implications for Stewart, who is keen to leave Dens Park this summer. The 26-year-old has just 12 months left on his contract, and has been linked with Leeds United in the past several weeks.

However, the Championship side will face competition from Birmingham City who have already put in an offer for the Stewart, and despite this being rejected they are likely to go back with an improved bid.
