The Julian Weigl to Leeds United rumour looks like it’s getting a little more serious.
Initially, the claims looked like they were based on assumption, given Weigl and Leeds United manager Daniel Farke had previously worked well together at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Of course, even at an idea stage the potential transfer was contingent on Leeds United securing promotion to the Premier League. With that now looking likely it’s been brought back.
Earlier today we covered claims which stated Leeds United had made some sort of contact. Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg now reports that contact was with the player’s camp to find out how he’d feel about a move to Elland Road.
At this stage, Borussia Mönchengladbach have not been contacted. The 29-year-old is paid €3-3.5m a year at the Bundesliga side on a contract lasting until 2028, and it sounds like they wouldn’t stand in his way if he wants the move to happen.
Julian Weigl will only consider a move if Leeds United secure that Premier League spot.
