Leeds United and Nottingham Forest have been repeatedly linked with a move for Josh Mulligan, Hibernian’s rising star, in recent days.

The 23-year-old can play in midfield or defence and has been with Hibernian since June. He’s seen as a potential future star of the Scotland national team, and securing a place at the World Cup will obviously be his aim for the next few months.

France’s FootMercato report Leeds United and Nottingham Forest are set to face some serious competition. That threat comes from both France and Germany, with Ligue 1 side Lille and Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga both keen.

Lille and Wolfsburg have both been in contact about a transfer, presumably with the player’s entourage. The French side believe they can get a bargain in the January window.

That’s because, according to the report, Mulligan has a release clause which is active in January. Most clauses only apply to the summer, making this an unusual quirk if true. No amount for that clause is given in the report.

Josh Mulligan needs to decide whether to stick or twist ahead of the World Cup.
