Leeds United are ‘also pushing’ to sign Manuel Benson from Burnley, as they gear up to sell Wilfried Gnonto before the end of the January transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says the Whites have now moved for the Burnley man and are rivalling Southampton for his signature.
Benson was one of the stars of the show for Burnley last season but has barely featured in their return to the Premier League with just four appearances to his name this season.
That’s seen him linked with a move away in the January transfer window with it reported earlier this week that Southampton were pushing to try and secure his signature.
It seems they now face competition from the Championship, though, as Tavolieri reports at Leeds are ‘also pushing’.
He explains that Leeds are expecting Wilfried Gnonto to leave Elland Road before the end of the transfer window, with West Ham keen on him, and they’ve made Benson a ‘priority target’ to replace him if and when he does.
It’s currently ‘case open’ on the move for the Burnley man, with talks underway between the two sides over a possible move.
Tavolieri makes no mention of a figure involved in the deal, or indeed if it would be a loan or straight transfer, just that Leeds are now in the mix as well as they look to replace Gnonto.
🚨 EXCL. 🟡🏴 And now… #LeedsUnited’s also pushing!
🇮🇹 #LUFC expecting a (likely) sale of Wilfried Gnonto to West Ham United before the end of the window pointed out the name of… Manuel Benson as a priority target as a replacement.
