Real Betis have reached out to Leeds United defender Junior Firpo as they look for a new left-back this summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spanish side want to ‘find out his plans’ for the future following Leeds’ relegation to the Championship.
The newspaper explains that left-back is something of a weak point for Betis after they sold Alex Moreno to Aston Villa in the January transfer window, but they are yet to decide on whether to make a serious move for a new signing in the position.
Leeds’ relegation this season ‘immediately brought’ Firpo into the picture as, like teammate Marc Roca, who has also been linked with a move to Betis, he is available on loan as long as the buying team pay his wages.
However, despite reports elsewhere, there have been ‘no serious contacts’ in this regard and Betis have simply held a ‘courtesy enquiry’ to find out the player’s plans. That is the newspaper’s own information.
Firpo looks more likely to join Marseille in France and the versatility of other players in Betis squad means the prospect of a move there is low at this point.
That can always change, of course, but so far there has been nothing concrete and only courtesy calls from those in charge at Heliópolis.
