Losing 2-0 to Mexico at half-time, Colombia’s manager Néstor Lorenzo decided that things needed to change and he took off Radamel Falcao and replaced him with Leeds United’s Luis Sinisterra.
What followed, few would have guessed, as the new Elland Road signing grabbed the game with both hands and scored two quick goals in the 49th and 52nd minute to tie the game.
They eventually went on to win the fixture 3-2 thanks to another goal from Wilmar Barrios, but there was no denying the impact the Leeds winger had.
He himself was thrilled with his contribution, and now there are others who, after analysing the game, are impressed with what the winger was able to achieve.
One of those was manager Rafael Dudamel, who gave his two cents about the Leeds man to Blog Deportivo, relayed by Blu Radio.
He said: “The presence of Sinisterra in the second was an absolute wake-up call. He was the footballer who destabilised [Mexico] and gave quality and depth to Colombia. His man of the match is deserved. Two goals that allowed Colombia to get into the game, so that Barrios came later with a great goal from mid-distance.”
The 23-year-old was signed as Raphinha’s replacement in the summer, with Leeds United paying £22.5m to Feyenoord to secure his services.
Since his arrival at Elland Road, he has scored three goals and assisted another in six appearances under Jesse Marsch.
