On July 8th, AS reported Real Betis have agreed a deal with Leeds United to sign Marc Roca on a loan deal with an option to buy set at €12m. It was also stated he was waiting for the La Liga side to lower their wage bill to complete the operation.
Two days later, the same newspaper said the midfielder is waiting for a call from Real Betis to leave Elland Road. He seems to have received that call as the 26-year-old has now made a trip to Spain.
That’s according to today’s Marca, who say the Leeds player arrived in Seville on Sunday to ‘sign his contract’ with the La Liga side.
The Spaniard wanted to return to his country after the Whites were relegated from the Premier League last season.
Despite earlier reports stating the two clubs had agreed a loan deal with a purchase option, Marca now claim otherwise.
It’s stated Manuel Pellegrini’s side won’t have an option to buy Roca due to the ‘lack of understanding’ with Leeds.
Instead, Marca say Real Betis will have an option to extend Roca’s loan deal for one more season if Leeds fail to achieve promotion back to the Premier League.
This will allow the English club to still have control over Roca, who has a deal at Leeds until 2026.
Furthermore, Mundo Deportivo state the player ‘will undergo a medical examination’ today and should he clear it, he’ll join his new teammates on Tuesday, for Betis’ pre-season trip to the UK.
