Leeds United may be closing in on a deal for defender Nico Elvedi, with a verbal agreement already in place with the 29-year-old.
Sky Germany report that the Borussia Mönchengladbach centre-back has a verbal agreement in place with Leeds to move to Elland Road this summer.
Verbal agreement
Sky report that the defender has reached a verbal agreement with Leeds. The two parties have agreed on a deal until 2029, with a fundamental understanding in place.
Daniel Farke’s side are now preparing an official offer for him. There is no mention on the details of that bid. But it is expected to arrive at Borussia Mönchengladbach soon. Negotiations between two clubs are entering the next phase.
Nico Elvedi, for his part, has already ‘signalled a clear willingness’ to the German side to move on this summer. His current deal runs until 2027, so it is beneficial for both parties to part ways.
He is keen to move ot the Premier League – after previously being close to Wolves – and sees Leeds’ project ‘positively’.
Bornauw exit key
The move, though, hinges on the transfer activities at Hamburger SV. They’ve set their sights on Sebastiaan Bornauw. Sport Witness have covered several reports detailing their efforts over the last two weeks.
Sky report that they would like to sign the 27-year-old on loan with an option to buy. Bornauw already has a verbal agreement in place with the Bundesliga club. But a deal has not been finalised with Leeds as yet.
But his departure would automatically open the door for Leeds to sign Elvedi. So, it appears that both deals are dependent on each other to go through. If Bornauw departs as expected, then it opens the door for Elvedi to Elland Road.
But that depends on Leeds accepting a loan deal and not holding out for a permanent exit. For now, everyone seems to be getting their ducks in order before making official offers.
