Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola has admitted this week has been “complicated” as he has been heavily linked with the Leeds United job.
Iraola found himself at the top of Leeds’ wish list earlier this week as they seek their replacement for Jesse Marsch.
The Spanish coach has been impressing in La Liga this season, taking Rayo to sixth in the table and just three points outside of the top four despite their budget being considerably less than those around them.
That has earned him plenty of admirers, including Leeds, who were believed to have put him at the to of a three-man shortlist to replace Marsch at Elland Road.
They even seemingly made the first moves to try and secure his signature but found Rayo and Iraola reluctant to do business quickly.
That saw Leeds instead target Feyenoord’s Arne Slot, but they have found him and the Dutch side equally reluctant to part ways and that has seen Iraola shoot back up in the odds.
He insisted earlier today that he has not changed his stance from earlier this week and has now admitted it has made his situation “complicated”.
“The last week has been complicated because there are many rumours and operations that are not closed until the last moment,” Sport report him saying.
“These are things to which we must give a certain naturalness and normality within the world of football. These discussions should be done internally and not be made public, although some are inevitable.
“I’m quite comfortable in this situation, I’ve already experienced it at Mirandés and now at Rayo. We have to do the job and then we can talk about contractual situations.
“So far, we have done it like this. The first year we met after promotion, last year after achieving mathematical salvation and this year it will go in the same direction.”
