Brighton and Hove Albion defender Igor Julio has been approached by Leeds United this summer.

That’s according to El Diario Vasco, who report that Leeds could provide competition to Real Sociedad for the Brazilian’s signature.

The newspaper explains that while Julio remains the most popular name on Sociedad’s transfer wish-list at this moment in time, the path to him is not a simple one.

According to their information, the 27-year-old has been approached by other teams in recent months, including three in the Premier League.

Leeds United, newly promoted to England’s top flight are one of the sides to have ‘picked up the phone’ to speak to the Brighton defender. They’re looking for a player with his characteristics.

The belief is that they will have the money to spend on a deal with Brighton as they will be receive ‘significant funds’ following their promotion. The club’s ownership have also promised Daniel Farke funds to strengthen his squad at Elland Road.

For now, they’ve simply sounded out the player and sources close to the player insist that Real Sociedad remain the defender’s first choice. He is keen to leave England and believes La Liga and Real Sociedad could suit him well. They’ve been the most active and shown the most interest in him to date.

His closest associates remain optimistic that Sociedad will secure his transfer eventually, with it just remaining to be seen when they put the money on Brighton’s table.

Julio, for his part, is currently on holiday in Brazil but is due to return to Brighton next week when they start pre-season.
