Borussia Monchengladbach are yet to make any significant progress in their move for Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber, so the Whites’ hopes of keeping the defender will be increasing.

Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has already gone public this summer to say Leeds United’s demands for Wöber are higher than what the Bundesliga side can afford.

It seems as if Gladbach have an alternative option lined up. BILD state today that the German side have held discussions with Leeds for the defender, but the Whites demand a ‘double-digit million’ fee for the 26-year-old.

Wöber spent last season on loan at Gladbach, who are now looking to sign AZ Alkmaar’s Riechedly Bazoer.

The Dutchman wants to leave AZ and has refused to sign a new deal with his current side, who could sell him for about €4m. That fee is significantly less than what Leeds want for Wöber.

That €4m fee is affordable without even selling a player, whereas to sign Wöber, they’d have to move on Nico Elvedi this summer.
