The latest from Bilbao on Aymeric Laporte to Manchester City comes from El Correo.
The Basque newspaper report, according to their own sources, Manchester City have now contacted Athletic Club Bilbao and told them they’re set to pay Laporte’s clause.
City picking up the telephone doesn’t mean it’s happening now, or has already happened, but it’s on the way. El Correo say Atheltic believe the €65m will arrive on Thursday or Friday into the Basque club’s bank account.
There’s no danger of Manchester City taking their time, explain El Correo, because they won’t want Laporte to play against Eibar on Friday.
The French defender hasn’t asked to be treated differently and is training as normal ahead of the match.
Athletic is a very proud club and the last thing Laporte and City want to do is upset them too much, so everything is carrying on as normal.
As soon as the payment arrives, Laporte can travel to England.
El Correo don’t believe he’ll be able to play against Cardiff City on Sunday, so he could potentially make his debut against West Brom on January 31st.
