Liverpool have not given up their longstanding admiration of Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni and would be interested in a deal again this summer.
That’s according to Cuatro, who provide the Spanish slant on a possible transfer at the end of the season as Jurgen Klopp looks to reinvent his midfield.
They explain that Liverpool want to build a ‘new and competitive’ team for next season and have a list of players they want to sign. Tchouaméni is on that list.
The Reds already tried to get the player last season, but the Frenchman opted to move to the Bernabeu instead of Anfield.
Klopp has asked for Liverpool to make an effort to sign him, according to reports in England, with it even stated they are willing to pay €80m to get a deal over the line, essentially giving Madrid their money back on him.
Cuatro now explain their stance and say that at the moment they don’t want to lose Tchouaméni, believing he will be the future of their midfield once Toni Kroos and Luka Modric leave.
They’re not concerned by the fact he has fallen out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti in recent months, having started the season as an undisputed starter but found himself on the bench more and more in recent months.
It is that which Liverpool are trying to take advantage of but Madrid’s stance at this point is that he is not for sale, and they don’t want to see him leave.
At the sime time, though, it is made clear the ‘last word will be with the player’ in regards to his future. He can decide to remain in Spain but, if he elects to move on then the suggestion is Madrid will accept his decision and open the door for Liverpool to get their man.
