Earlier today we covered a report from AS which stated Chelsea remain in talks to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid. The situation was said to be ‘very hot’, and negotiations had reached the stage of discussing a purchase clause.

Unfortunately for those who want the move to happen, Mundo Deportivo have things very differently indeed. They have a headline saying Saul’s departure is ‘ruled out’.

The newspaper says they’ve been informed that the final option for a transfer this summer, which was Chelsea, has ‘vanished’. A last minute offer from somewhere could change things, but that isn’t expected by either Atletico Madrid or the people in Saul’s camp.

Chelsea didn’t manage to convince Saul, according to the claims, and it’s not clear whether that’s financially or regarding his potential role in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Therefore, the midfielder-turned-utility-option believes that staying with Los Rojiblancos could be the best scenario for him, despite being keen on a transfer for much of the window.

Mundo Deportivo are very pessimistic about the chances of a move happening before the window closes, and they make it clear that Saul’s attention must now turn to regaining prominence under Diego Simeone.
