Needing some more defenders in his squad at AS Roma, José Mourinho turned to a familiar face in Diego Llorente, who is contracted to Leeds United.
The Spaniard wasn’t getting many chances under Jesse Marsch at the time, and thus a deal was struck between the two sides for a loan until the end of the season with an option to buy set at €18m.
Leeds were perhaps hoping that, with a manager who knows him well and wanted him, they would have seen the last of their player, but that might not be the case, according to Roma Today.
This is partly due to the fact Llorente has only played 72 minutes to date for Roma, and, as things stand, the Serie A side have ‘no intention of redeeming’ the 29-year-old for the pre-agreed price.
He will have a chance to impress, however, between now and the end of the season, as injuries and the poor form of Marash Kumbulla have worked in his favour.
The Leeds loanee is expected to start against Sampdoria, where he could ‘build the foundations’ for a possible transfer and a future as a fully fledged Roma player.
The next few months, as the club try to qualify for the Champions League and win the Europa League, could therefore be decisive for him in convincing the club to ‘redeem him and bet on him for next season as well’.
In short, this is his last chance to impress.
