One of the big questions this transfer window is whether or not Paul Pogba is actually worth the transfer fee he could/will be transferred for.
The 23-year-old midfielder, widely regarded as one of the best young players in the world, is the subject of a potential €120m offer from his former club Manchester United, who seem hellbent on bringing him back to Old Trafford.
As was the case with Anthony Martial’s move for an amount capable of reaching €80m, many see this as a waste of money, believing the funds could be better spent elsewhere.
Few believe the transfer is worth it, but some do.
One of these people happens to be one of Pogba’s teammates in the France squad, and former Newcastle winger Hatem Ben Arfa, who very recently moved on a free from Nice to Paris Saint-Germain after a great season in Ligue 1.
Interviewed by Le Parisien, the 29-year-old was asked what he thought of what could become the biggest transfer in the history of football.
He said: “It’s a huge deal. If Manchester United are investing so much into him, it’s because they know what they’re doing. Of course, Paul will have a lot of responsibilities due to it, but I have faith in him. I think he’ll be able to impose himself very quickly.”
As for which one is the biggest coup between signing Pogba for €120m or Hatem Ben Arfa on a free, Ben Arfa replied after thinking carefully: “Pogba for €120m”.
Modesty and all that, eh?
