Over the past few weeks, there has been an increasing amount of chatter surrounding the future of Sofyan Amrabat at Fiorentina, with Liverpool reportedly interested.
His agent hasn’t helped in that regard, openly speaking about all the interest in the Morocco international, who is currently having a great tournament with his national team in Qatar.
Liverpool have taken notice, and with a desperate need to add some strength to their midfield for the second half of the season, Jürgen Klopp has set his sights on Amrabat.
In fact, it was reported on Wednesday that he had already met with the player’s agent, with another meeting allegedly scheduled for after the World Cup.
Corriere dello Sport bring a bit more on Thursday, claiming that the Liverpool manager has ‘long since made a request to the board to be able to have a player just like Amrabat in January’.
While there is talk of a £3.5m/year wage package waiting for him at Anfield, there’s also the lure of Champions League, which could make him ‘waver’.
That’s something Liverpool can offer but Fiorentina cannot, but that won’t discourage the Serie A side from trying to keep him, with it said they intend to offer him a renewal at around £1.8m/year, which is double what he is on currently.
Whether that’s enough, however, remains to be seen.
