Thursday’s edition of Rheinische Post takes a look at claims Ipswich Town are interested in signing Fortuna Düsseldorf’s Ao Tanaka.
They saw Ipswich’s fans were very impressed with Tanaka following a recent friendly between the two clubs, but then dismiss the idea that could prompt a transfer on its own.
There’s been no concrete approaches for the midfielder, despite rumours of interest going back over a year. Last summer, Leeds United were repeatedly linked, although nothing serious came of it.
Interestingly, Rheinische Post say they’ve asked Kieran McKenna which Fortuna player he’d pick for Ipswich if he could take one, and he’s quoted as saying: “Ao Tanaka – the midfielder, he is the one you know a little better if you are closely involved in football. He has incredibly good technique. But Fortuna also has other good players in their ranks.”
The newspaper say they’ve found out Ipswich Town have no concrete plans to make an offer, so it looks like this one won’t even get off the ground.
Fortuna are open to a sale this summer and Tanaka is available for around €2.5m. Rheinische Post appear surprised nobody is moving for him.
