Roberto de Zerbi could be tempted to remain at Brighton and Hove Albion and turn down Bayern Munich if they come calling in the summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say there is currently a debate raging over whether the Italian would accept the job should it be offered to him.
The newspaper covers Bayern’s managerial search today as they plan for life post Thomas Tuchel, who is set to leave at the end of the season.
They’re targeting Xabi Alonso but reports this week have made it clear that Brighton’s Roberto de Zerbi is their second-choice candidate behind the Bayer Leverkusen coach.
SportBILD confirm that, and the fact that director of football Max Eberl has already been in contact with the Brighton manager about a potential move to Bayern in the summer.
They would seemingly be willing to pay the €14m release clause required to get him but the major doubt is whether De Zerbi would be drawn to a big club.
He is believed to have chosen his previous clubs based on his desire to work in peace and implement his philosophy.
That would not be the case in Munich, though, where his work would be under the spotlight, and he’d be under much more pressure.
That is something the Italian ‘doesn’t really appreciate’ and so could be tempted to remain where he is and turn down any advances from Bayern should their current efforts become a formal approach.
