Everton midfielder James Rodriguez has an agreement in place with AC Milan in a deal that will be announced on deadline day of the transfer window.
That’s according to journalist Vito de Palma, who says to expect a ‘bombshell’ as the transfer window shuts tomorrow.
MARCA cover the journalist’s comments today, which they say were made during yesterday’s broadcast of Milan vs Genoa from Serie A.
They report De Palma stating at the end of the game that the Rossoneri already have an agreement with Rodriguez and his agent, Jorge Mendes, for the player to make the move to Milan.
The deal is set to be announced in the final hours of the transfer window tomorrow, with details of the transfer also provided.
According to De Palma’s information, the Italian team will not be paying for Rodriguez as they have a policy at the club of not spending money on players over the age of 26.
He would therefore be arriving on a free transfer from Everton in the same way that he arrived at Goodison Park on a free transfer from Real Madrid last year.
Apparently, finding a club willing to pay for the Colombian has been an ‘obstacle’ for Everton this summer, and so Mendes could only resolve the situation by convincing the Toffees to let him go for free.
That seems a little strange, and interestingly there are no details on what sort of contract he’d have at Milan, but we can also see Everton being keen to get rid of Rodriguez’s wages as well.
We’ll wait for something a little more concrete to get excited, with Rodriguez seemingly keen to be a major player on deadline day, something which will come as no surprise to anybody.
