Tottenham defender Radu Dragusin has found himself being criticised by the Dutch media, and specifically Valentijn Driessen, as the Netherlands get set to face Romania at Euro 2024.
FC Update cover comments from the Dutch journalist today, who is very much not a fan of the Tottenham defender and thinks Micky van de Ven is superior to him.
Dragusin joined Tottenham in a €25m deal from Genoa in January this year after impressing with the Italian side over the last two years, first joining them on loan from Juventus before making the move permanent for €9.7m in July 2023.
He’s yet to get really going at Tottenham, though, only managing a handful of appearances before the end of the season and struggling to oust either Micky van de Ven or Cristian Romero from the side under Ange Postecoglou.
Dragusin enjoys a far more important role for his national side, establishing himself as a key player for Romania since making his debut in March 2022.
He’s been vital for them at Euro 2024 so far, playing 90 minutes in the win over Ukraine, the defeat to Belgium and draw with Slovakia, helping his side qualify for the knockout stages.
They’re now set to take on the Netherlands in the last 16, prompting Driessen to air his feelings on the Tottenham defender.
“He has a strange haircut. A woman’s hairstyle like that, with two ponytails,” he said.
“He didn’t achieve anything at all last season. He plays for Tottenham Hotspur, where he is under contract. His agent thinks he’s great. He is always stalking Daniel Levy about his player, that he should get a salary increase and should play.
“(He doesn’t play) because he is simply not good enough and Van de Ven plays there. In that respect, we might be better off playing with Van de Ven than with Virgil van Dijk, because he will keep Dragusin out of the match.”
