Diogo Jota is enjoying a good start to his life at Liverpool after joining them from Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.
The forward has seven goals in all competitions for the Reds, which includes a hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League, and winners against Sheffield United and West Ham United in the league.
Wolves initially signed the 23-year-old on loan from Atlético Madrid in the summer of 2017 and made his transfer permanent in January 2018.
‘Diogo Jota, from Simeone’s big mistake to Klopp’s bingo’, is a headline of a short report in today’s Mundo Deportivo written by journalist Xavier Bosch.
The Portugal international has been an instant hit at the Merseyside club. Bosch is finding it hard to believe that ‘only Jürgen Klopp decided to bet’ on the attacker, who was with Wolves for three years.
Atlético have an eye for young talents and thus, it’s also hard for Bosch to believe the La Liga side transferred Jota to Wolves even before he could make his debut with the first team. According to Bosch, this is a ‘big mistake’ from Diego Simeone.
The Madrid club signed Jota for €8m and sold him for €14m to Wolves in 2018. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side cashed in around €49m from his move to Liverpool in the summer.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino are the first choice attackers and the Catalan journalist warns the trio now face ‘fierce competition’ from Jota for a place in Liverpool’s starting lineup.
