Donny van de Beek is likely to take up a more advanced role at Everton than what was seen of him during his time at Manchester United.

That’s according to journalist Peter Zwart, who believes the Dutchman will be playing the role of a number ten under new Everton manager Frank Lampard.

Van de Beek completed a loan move from Manchester United to Goodison Park on deadline day of the January transfer window, joining the Toffees on a temporary basis until the end of the season.

He was one of three deadline day arrivals for Everton, who also secured a move for Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli before the window slammed shut.

The two arrivals provide Everton with some much-needed reinforcements in midfield, an area that has been a problem area for several of Lampard’s predecessors.

It remains to be seen how Lampard fits the Manchester United man into his team, but Zwart believes, based on his time as a coach so far, there’s only one solution.

“If you look at that selection of Everton, you see Lampard is going to be the new manager there, well then I have to add things up,” he told Voetbal International.

“In the past, Lampard mostly played 4-2-3-1, he played different formations, but it was mostly 4-2-3-1 looking at the selections.

“So I think really, there is no other number ten, so basically if Lampard is going to play his favourite system, Donny van de Beek will be the ten.”
