Brazilian outlet Bola Vip today features a report about Arsenal interest in Corinthians goalkeeper Matheus Donelli.
Before we speak of the Gunners’ chase, we must explain the situation going on at the Timão first.
Corinthians already have goalkeeper Cássio, who’s edging towards the end of his career, and Donelli, at 19, was expected to be his successor. However, the club made another move and are close to signing Ivan, from Ponte Preta, for the position as well.
That ruined the youngster’s plans, and now his representatives told Corinthians he’ll be looking for a new club. Since his agent is Jorge Mendes, he can of course be offered to very interesting destinations.
So according to Bola Vip, Donelli’s name was pushed to Arsenal, already in 2021. It’s said he’s actually been followed by the London side since 2019, when he won a title with Brazil’s U19 national team.
The report then claims that Edu Gaspar, who was also a director at Corinthians, received a 19-page document about the goalkeeper.
Donelli’s staff are expected to bring offers to Corinthians in the coming days, even though it’s not clear if Arsenal will be submitting one of those.
