Earlier this week, we covered a report from Brazil which said Crystal Palace could sign Cristian Medina from Boca Juniors.
That’d be a plan from John Textor, who’s trying to get the player to Botafogo. Since the Rio de Janeiro club are struggling to afford the transfer, the businessman would use either Lyon or the Eagles to buy him and loan him there.
An update on this story is now brought by Globo Esporte, and even though there are different developments in this story, Crystal Palace are once again mentioned as part of the strategy.
It’s now said that Botafogo placed an official bid for Medina. They previously had a €7m offer turned down, and now put over €8m on the table.
To convince the player to accept the move, they’re reportedly building a ‘career plan’ involving Lyon and Crystal Palace, promising that he could move to one of those clubs in the future.
There’s still a long way to go, though, as Medina is protected by a US$15m release clause and Boca Juniors are being tough in the negotiations.
