Manchester United may end up frustrated in case they plan to shop at Benfica in the winter transfer market.

Portuguese newspaper Record today shares a front page claiming the Eagles have ‘closed doors’ to the departures of João Neves and Antonio Silva.

Even though the outlet doesn’t mention the contenders for their signings this time, Manchester United have been linked to both of them recently.

Benfica are fully committed to fighting for the title this season, and president Rui Costa has been telling interested sides that they won’t leave even for the price of their release clauses.

Earlier this week, the Portuguese media had already claimed that João Neves is set to sign a new contract with the club, raising his clause from €120m to €150m.

The same story said Manchester United are in ‘first place’ to get the midfielder signed, and now it seems they’ll need to wait until the summer.

The Red Devils’ chase for Silva has also been reported by the local media for a while now, although they also pointed Sporting’s Gonçalo Inácio as an alternative, and perhaps the new developments could convince Erik ten Hag to go for the Lions’ player.
