Jefferson Lerma is on the verge of leaving Crystal Palace, according to information which sounds like it’s come from close to the player.
The midfielder joined the Eagles in 2023 from Bournemouth. At the time it was announced he’d signed a contract until 2026, with reports of a further year clause.
Often such clauses have to be triggered by appearances, or must be approved by both parties involved.
Now, Cadena Ser report Crystal Palace have made a contract offer, but Lerma has rejected it. There’s no indication of the terms involved, however, Lerma’s camp are looking for the last big contract of his career.
Free agent status
According to the information, Jefferson Lerma will soon be a free agent and plans to use that status. His last match at Selhurst Park will be against Arsenal on Sunday.
After that his attention will turn to the Conference League final. Crystal Palace face Rayo Vallecano at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig.
Following that, the 31-year-old will go to the World Cup and then concentrate on finding a new club.
Not keen on Premier League stay
Cadena Ser state Jefferson Lerma wants to leave English football. It’s not entirely ruled out he’d accept a Premier League club, but the offer would have to be big. On both a sporting and financial level.
Several La Liga clubs have been in contact with the Crystal Player’s camp to find out his demands on length of contract and finances. There’s also interest from Turkey, Greece, Italy and MLS.
When it comes to Spain, Sevilla and Valencia are two of the clubs involved.
Crystal Palace need to enter market
Given they’re losing Jefferson Lerma, and there’s doubts around others including Adam Wharton, Crystal Palace need to enter the market for a midfielder.
Lerma hasn’t played every minute this season, but he’s certainly been a used member of the squad.
First they need to confirm Oliver Glasner’s replacement, with Spanish reports edging Andoni Iraola towards that position.
