Chelsea have had so many players arrive or leave over the past few windows that it can be difficult to keep track.
Some can go having spent less than a year at Stamford Bridge, and not leave much in the way of memory for supporters. One of those is Kalidou Koulibaly, who arrived from Napoli in July 2022 and was already off to Saudi Arabia and Al-Hilali in June of the following year.
The defender had impressed many during his time with Napoli and probably left it a window or two too late to leave the Italian side. At one time considered one of the best players in his position in Europe, it now feels like the 32-year-old was in that bracket for a very fleeting time.
He’s now been speaking to Spanish newspaper AS, who put it to Koulibaly that he looks very happy playing his football in Saudi Arabia after his time at Chelsea.
The player answered that by saying: “I have found happiness again on and off the field. At Chelsea things were not as I expected, I was not used to not playing. When the offer came, I understood that it could be the right decision.
“And it was like this: I am delighted and the championship, with the signings, it is growing. People underestimate the level of the Saudis. Many thought that we came here on vacation and they found out that this is not the case. We have 27 consecutive victories and we will not stop until we win titles.”
One for the list of poor buys.
