KRC Genk technical director Dimitri De Condé has told Het Belang van Limburg that he’s disappointed over losing Daniel Muñoz to Crystal Palace in the recently concluded window.
The Colombia international arrived in Europe when the Jupiler Pro League side signed him from Atlético Nacional in 2020.
The 27-year-old’s transfer wish was fulfilled towards the end of the winter market, when the Eagles signed him on a permanent deal.
De Condé has given a lengthy interview to the Belgian newspaper and when asked about the right-back’s move to Selhurst Park, he expressed his disappointment.
“It’s a shame and annoying that the transfer had to take place in the winter. But I don’t have a bad feeling about the deal itself,” he said.
“Muñoz is 28, has given everything here for 3.5 years and through us he was able to realise his dream of playing football in the Premier League. He didn’t really misbehave either.
“On the day that his transfer was completed in the early evening, that boy sat on a stool on the third floor from the afternoon onwards, waiting for the news. He hadn’t slept in several days. I don’t blame him.”
The director has also explained why the fullback wasn’t able to train with Genk in his last days at the club.
“He didn’t train for several days because he was no longer able to do it mentally and physically,” De Condé explained.
The South American arrives at Crystal Palace after managing seven goals and two assists from 29 games for Genk this season.
Muñoz has signed a deal until 2027, with an option for another year, and made his Crystal Palace debut in their 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
