Rosario Central have made advances in their efforts to bring Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz back to the club this summer.
Earlier today, we covered claims from Argentina which stated Rosario Central have agreed a deal in principle with Spurs to sign the striker on a loan deal without an option to buy.
Tottenham initially wanted to sell the 21-year-old, who struggled since joining them from Rosario Central in August 2023. He’s determined to return to his former club, and this has reportedly convinced Thomas Frank’s side to sanction a loan move.
Ángel Di María has returned to Rosario Central after 18 years. The former Benfica, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain man is keen for the Tottenham player to join him at the Argentine club. He mentioned this during a chat with ESPN and Tuesday’s edition of Olé have relayed his comments.
The 37-year-old World Cup winner reveals he spoke to Véliz about the possibility of him coming back to Rosario Central.
“I was talking while I was coming to the stadium. He told me to send his regards. I told him that if I did, it was because he was coming. He replied that I should send him his regards, ha. I’m sure he’s watching me. It would be very nice if he could come back,” he said.
“I know it’s difficult; he’s young and has many offers. For him to have the initiative to want to come back and play with me at Gigante [Estadio Gigante de Arroyito, Rosario’s home stadium] would be very nice.”
Olé state Rosario Central are getting closer to bringing Véliz back to the club. They add it’ll be on loan with a ‘50% purchase option’, meaning they have an option to buy 50% of his rights from Tottenham.
It’s to be noted earlier claims stated there’s no buying option as part of the loan deal.
