Bayer Leverkusen managing director of sport Simon Rolfes claims Liverpool have shown interest in Jeremie Frimpong.

Bild cover the official’s comments on the right-back’s future, which is set to be away from the German club.

Over the past few days, several claims have stated Liverpool is set to be Frimpong’s next destination.

At the weekend, Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg reported the 24-year-old’s arrival at Anfield can be considered a done deal.

Bild state the Netherlands international’s move to the Merseyside club is ‘practically over’. They add only his medical, which will take place this week, is missing him for to join the Reds.

The former Celtic man has a €40m release clause in a contract which expires in 2028. The Bundesliga club’s director spoke about his clause and the Premier League winners’ interest.

“It’s no secret that he has a prospect clause and there’s interest, perhaps from England, perhaps even from Liverpool. We’ll see what happens. It’s quite possible that Jerry will leave in the summer,” he said.

When asked about the player’s medical with Liverpool, Rolfes explained: “Even then, it’s still not finalised. But I’ve already been informed about things. We’ve all been informed, so it could happen. Let’s wait and see.”

The report states the Dutchman’s transfer fee is fixed and is around €40m.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold will leave in June and will be replaced by Frimpong.
