Ipswich Town have shown an interest in Peruvian midfielder Renato Tapia this summer, with him available on a free transfer.
That’s according to Peruvian newspaper Depor, who say Ipswich are one of several sides to show an interest in the midfielder as he plots his next career move.
The newspaper explains that Tapia is yet to make a decision about his future after leaving Celta Vigo at the beginning of this month.
The 28-year-old has already received several offers from across the world, including from the United Arab Emirates, where Al-Wasl Football club have made it clear they are ‘one of the biggest interested parties’ in the potential race.
They’ve already presented an offer to him but that was rejected, and a counter offer now sits on the table for Tapia to consider.
They’re not the only side in the mix, though, with Depor reporting that Porto and Ipswich Town have also shown an interest in the player. The problem is that he would prefer to remain in Spain if he can after his four years with Celta Vigo.
He, therefore, is hoping to drum up interest there first and holding the likes of Ipswich, Porto and Al-Wasl at arm’s length for the time being. The newspaper adds that he intends to ‘make a decision that benefits his career’ and so the latter may not be tempting to him as yet.
That’s a potential boost for Kieran McKenna’s side, although it seems they need to work harder if they wish to sign the midfielder.
